Where Do Mice Hide in a House?
One of the unpleasant guests many of us hope not to find in our homes is a mouse. Even cute mice carry disease and create unsanitary conditions in the home, and the sight and sound of the little critters scurrying about your home can be extremely unsettling. Where do mice nest in a house, and are you likely to get just one or more? Here are some basic mouse infestation facts.
Where Do Mice Nest in a House?
Mice are nocturnal, so you’re not going to see them during the day. You’ll probably only notice they are around when you hear that skittering as you lie in bed in the middle of the night, or perhaps you’ll see one scurrying away when you turn on the lights in the kitchen for a midnight snack. So, where are they hiding out during the day?
Mice love to live in your home’s insulation. It’s the perfect place for them, as they can tear up insulation to make their nest and hide in it to keep warm and take care of their young. Mice adore soft material and they hate bright lights, so places where you keep insulation are a perfect spot for them, as is anywhere else that’s dark and full of paper or other soft, shreddable material.
How Many Mice Live in a House?
So, if you have mice in the house, how many can you expect? That all depends on how many you start with. If you have only one mouse, you may get lucky and have it stay that way. If you have two mice and they breed, however, things can get out of control fast. One female mouse can produce up to 60 babies in a year, and those mice are mature enough to breed in only a couple of months, so it’s not long before the population can get totally out of hand, which is why you need to act fast.
