Halifax Pest Control
Halifax Pest Control
Unlike Kingston, its neighbor to the east, and nearby Duxbury and Plymouth, the Town of Halifax is
landlocked; it does not have a border along Cape Cod Bay or the Atlantic Ocean. Yet the town’s topography is very much determined by water. With Silver Lake on its eastern border, the Taunton River on its western border, the East and West Monponsett Ponds and several smaller ponds, a reservoir, and the Peterson and Great Cedar Swamps all set within Halifax, there is indeed water, water everywhere.
Much like the town of Kingston, Halifax’s population remained consistent from the earliest census in 1850 – with less than 1,000 residents – until the completion of Route 3 in the 1950s. With the newly-constructed four-lane highway offering a much more efficient trip into Boston, Halifax saw a dramatic increase its population with each decade and by 1980 more than 5,500 people called Halifax home. Today Halifax is a desirable residential community for Boston commuters.
Unfortunately, the presence of numerous bodies of water and the many acres of swampland in Halifax, coupled with a high concentration of residents, can lead to a decidedly undesirable problem; household pests.
Because of the high humidity created by the rivers, ponds and swamps in Halifax, insects – including termites, roaches, earwigs, and black ants, carpenter ants and field ants – which thrive in a humid climate, can become a problem. As with any densely populated area, outdoor waste receptacles are a fact life. These provide a food source for unwanted rodents such as rats and mice. And because fleas and bedbugs are attracted to the carbon dioxide we – and our pets – exhale, they are an unfortunate reality regardless of where one resides.
The ‘ounce of prevention’ adage holds especially true in home pest control. Keeping trash containers tightly sealed is a critical step in pest control, as is not allowing water to accumulate in outdoor containers. Birdfeeders and birdbaths can also draw unwanted pests. Keeping organic matter, such as plantings and mulch, at least two feet away from the foundation of your home is also effective.
If you find your home has become infested with insects or rodents and are wondering how to get rid of termites, rats and mice – or any other pest – it’s time to call a pest control company.
